Maybe last year was just a bad dream.
It was the dawn of a new era on The View Tuesday as Whoopi Goldberg – one of the show’s founding members – was surrounded by a (mostly) new panel of hosts to kick off its 19th season on ABC. Good Morning America Weekend anchor Paula Faris began her first day on the show with relative newbies Michelle Collins and Raven-Symoné, while veteran host Joy Behar returned to the center chair to bring back some energy to the struggling franchise.
After brief introductions and an impromptu visit by a flower-wielding Jerry O’Connell, talk immediately got underway about the day’s headlines, like Pope Francis standing up for the LGBT community and the imprisonment of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis. The gals didn’t waste any time serving up some zingers: After Goldberg referenced a quote from Martin Luther King Jr., Collins said, “my dream is that [Davis] stays in jail long enough to get gay-married herself.”

Don’t get too used to the Fuller House star, though: production on the reboot for Netflix won’t be completed until November so she’ll be flying back and forth to New York City. That led to a discussion by the women about the streaming service: Goldberg shared a poll that says more folks watch Netflix than have sex and Faris complained that it’s easy to forget plot points because nine months will go by before there are fresh episodes.
The show’s guests were U.S Senator Elizabeth Warren (whom Behar encouraged to run for vice president alongside Joe Biden, should he choose to make a run for the White House), Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie.
The show underwent a major host change for this season after Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicole Wallace failed to inject some much-needed adrenaline into the ABC News program. The new iteration is also expected to include rotating correspondents Sherri Shepherd. Padma Lakshmi, Stacy London, Ana Navarro and Molly Sims.
